Fears of flying types

Almost half of us get nervous when sitting in an airplane. the reasons are various: fear of a technical problem on the airplane, fear of terror and fear from small and close place (claustrophobia) or other psychological reason that can lead to panic attack.

What to do to over come fear?

• Get help: Go to a course, a therapist, or get a book – like Fear of flying hand book, that promise to cure your flights fear in days. the book is sold for 37 dollar only, including an audio version
• Try to take short flights, and raise the distance gradually.
• Don’t be obsess about reading materials on flights safety, accident etc.
• If you don’t fly too often, you can take tranquilizers.
• Getting drunk by alcohol is not recommended
• Try exercises like yoga, that can really relax you before the flight.

• Dress well: you will surprise, but the airlines company think about the image of the prestige departments. You will never get an upgrade dressing like a back packer.
• Use your agent: especially when you fly a lot with the same agent. Tell him you want a flight upgrade and let him fight for you.
• Aim for unpacked flights: usually the early morning flights, but you can check with your agent.
• Get early to the check in: the early you get the better chance you have to get an upgrade.
• Use the frequent flayer card: if  you are a frequent flier, you will get better chance to get an upgrade, especially if you collected a lot of frequent flier miles. You can remind it on the check in, in case they forgot your status.
• Fly alone:  If you fly with kids, you will almost for sure won’t get upgrade. Any way  – the more passengers you are, the less your chance for upgrade.
• Ask at the counter. If there is  a place, asking might do the trick.

The first cardinal rule needed to guide you in most cases, is that if you are buying something on the airport duty-free shop, you can take it with you on the plane. How ever, in a check we did in July 2009, there are 4 exceptions: the United States, Canada, Australia & New Zealand. Those 4 countries will allow you to enter with just 100 cc of liquids, even if the bottle is a duty-free shop’s.

In any case, if there is no such option – the duty-free seller, at the store, should tell you. We got worned on a flight from Bangkok to Sydney.

When we write here duty-free shop, we mean only for duty-free shop at the airport or on the plane – duty-free shop of the airline. A tax-free shop in the city, are a different story. You wont be able to take Liqueur you bought before the check in zone, as a hand Luggage.

The reason is of course – safety. If you are buying a bottle of whiskey or a fine quality face cream at the airport duty-free shop, the product will be packed and will be waiting for you at the boarding gate, minutes before the plane take off. Then, the airline knows that the product was purchased in duty-free shop and is safe, and not containing for example, any chemical materials that will allow you to make a bomb over the ocean.

It is important to know – is it getting tricky if this is not a direct flight. For example, if you fly to Los Angeles via Paris, you can pick up a bottle as you embark from your home airport, butonce you get out at the airport Charles de Gaulle, the bottle is no longer sterile, and you can’t take it to the next flight from Paris to Los Angeles .

But, before you decide to purchase the goods solely at the duty-free shop at the airport, or on the plane, it’s important to know that there is also a solution to purchase products out side the airport.ut there are also risks, if you are not experts in packaging. The solution is sending a product – a bottle of drink, a prestigious perfume or any other liquid, with the suitcases you deliver at the check in point. Thus, you will meet your bottle only when you reach your final destination.

again – It is recommended only for those who have confidence in theirs packing ability.

When travelling from the EU countries to the UK, you do not have to pay any tax or duty on goods you have bought in another EU country, as long as tax was included in the price when you purchased the items, the items are for your own personal  use, and have been transported to the UK by you.

Still, there are limitation on alcohol and tobacco products:

3200 cigarettes
400 cigarillos
200 cigars
3 kg of smoking tobacco
110 litres of beer
10 litres of spirits
90 litres of wine
20 litres of fortified wine e.g. port or sherry

From Estonia – 200 cigarettes or 250g of smoking tobacco
From Bulgaria, Hungary, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, Romania and Slovakia – 200 cigarettes

Here are the limitations, when coming to the UK from outside the EU:

• Going for vacation? try to avoid leaving home on an early flight. you might get to the destination early, to “earn” a day, but eventually you will be so tired by the end of the day, and sometimes, during the all vacation.
• Need to go to work in the next morning? its best to get a flight that will get you to the destination no later then early evening. Otherwise, you will go to work exhausted.
• When booking a flight, never forget that you should wake up about 4 hours or more before – to be at the airport on time.
• When flying to small destination, make sure you will get transportation from the airport, at the arrival time
• When calculating the arrival time – don’t forget the time zone difference

1. What you don’t want to put in the suitcase you deposit during check-in:

•  money, credit card, airline ticket
• joules and breakable stuff
• House key or car keys
• Food product – that can get very smelly after a while
• liquids that can wet our bag
• things that you need right after the flight (Hotel voucher etc.)

 2. Prepare your suitcase for the flight:

• In side the suitcase – insert a paper with all your contact details. If some one will find it, he can reach you.
• Use lockers so it can’t be open easily
• Mark it – with a colorful ribbon or something similar
• there is a world wide system to locate your suitcase
• inside the suitcase – a paper with your details..
• Don’t lose the stickers on your flight ticket, passport or boarding ticket: you will find there your luggage i.d.
• A regular travel insurance should be enough. In addition, the airline should compensate you as well for your lost. By the way – while in transit, the last airlines the flight you, is the one who responsible for your belongings.

First, and before the stuff you should bring, don’t forget to notify the airline in advance and try to book an appropriate seats. The best ones will be the first line on the block – where there is a possibility for a mobile small bed.

- Short and long clothes.
- Diapers – Just enough for the flight (you can buy in the destination).
- Little blanket – in can get chili in the airplane
- Socks
-  wool hat to keep the head worm.
- Liquid soap  – Small bottle.
- Shampoo.
- Lotion cream (the aircraft is cold and dry).
- Body cream.
- Food: if your baby use to a specific food – bring it with you. Unlike diapers, you should not relly on the purchase of food products abroad, since every country has something different and it’s not a good time to do trials …
- Bottles.
- Mineral water (bottle or two for the flight)
- Brush to clean bottles.
- moist body towels
- snacks, Gerber etc.
- Cookies (flight).
- light carrier
- Blanket.
- Pacifiers
- Important drugs and syrops – against fever etc.
- Drops iron drops + A + D if the baby is no longer taking them.
- Toys and Children’s books are esential to pass the flight.

Bangkok. Thailand: consider by many as the central station of the far east, and also convenient located for the arrivals from Europe, Australia, or Japan. Bangkok is a good place to buy deals for multi stops – like Bangkok-Manila-Tokyo-Bangkok etc. You will get a decent price, and a very big variety of flight, with many companies, to all around the world.

Singapore: Like Bangkok, has good location and connection to many destination. its a good stop’ again like Bangkok, between Australia and Europe, and also – if you need a camera or electronics devices, you will get it cheap down town. another reason to choose Singapore, is the great and cheap Duty free.

Hong Kong: a great gateway to china, and also to Japan and South Korea. also – a good place to shop camera and electronics devices.
